The second year of the Citizens’ Assembly on Democratic Expression has wrapped! Over three online sessions and five days in Ottawa before the Omicron wave hit, 42 Canadians representing every province and territory volunteered to participate in this process connected to the Commission on Democratic Expression. Through their deliberations, the Assembly identified seven values that should shape Canada’s approach to internet regulation and unanimously endorsed 27 recommendations which they believe will help to safeguard and strengthen our democracy while reducing the prevalence of disinformation online. The report, which you can read here, has been delivered to the Minister of Heritage and his staff.
