Coordinator
Start Date: September 2023
We’re looking to expand our team this summer by adding a new director. Directors at MASS play a central role in leading projects, producing high quality work, and supporting our consultants to do the same. They also advise the principal on the stewardship of the company and its mission. We are looking for a candidate with the right mix of qualities, skills and experience to help us build our practice and raise our game.
About MASS LBP
MASS has worked for more than a decade to fulfill its mission to popularize and embed reference panels, citizens' assemblies, and other long-form deliberative practices within Canada’s institutions and democratic culture. Fundamentally we believe in people, which is why we are working to see that more people have a hand in shaping the policies that shape their lives. This mission continues to animate our work, shape strategic, operational and financial decisions, and inspire staff and supporters. We have proven the versatility of our approach and the stability of our organization while retaining a creative and forward-thinking culture. MASS aspires to be an organization where colleagues work collaboratively with a shared sense of purpose and aligned values.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an energetic candidate with a range of life experience to contribute to a diverse portfolio of strategy and engagement projects for our clients. To succeed you will need the energy and versatility to take on a wide range of tasks to get the job done.
Temperamentally, you will be focused and hard-to-rattle. You like to bring out the best in people and believe that people working together can solve tough problems. You also want to try and improve how people and their governments interact.
MASS has a fast-paced and creative culture where every member enjoys a high degree of autonomy and responsibility. It also means we each tackle tasks both high and low. To be successful, you need to be open to new ways of working and learning. Clear, thoughtful writing and speech should be particularly important to you.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience working with and supporting successful teams. You like to muck in and aren’t the kind to rely on others to get a job done. Experience in the service industry, production environments, and/or journalism and publishing are particularly valued.

Coordinators are essential members of the MASS team who work with the principal, directors and senior consultants to deliver our projects. Coordinators are often early career professionals who are working to sharpen their service, analytic, written and presentation skills. Coordinators are assisted and managed by directors on a project-by-project basis and we expect coordinators to meticulously track different elements of a project. While coordinators are primarily focused on project work, they are expected to show interest in the company's mission and contribute to company stewardship in a manner that matches their interests and skill set.

Compensation
Our approach to compensation is straightforward. MASS has an open-book management policy and we publicly disclose our salaries. Our salary structure follows a grid which is indexed annually to inflation and adjusted every few years.
New coordinators earn $57,250.00 plus health benefits and paid holiday. This rises in stages to $68,975 within 25 months contingent on performance.
All staff members are encouraged to participate in a voluntary retirement planning and RRSP program provided by Commonwealth. Employment becomes permanent after the successful completion of a three month probationary period.
Please keep in mind that high turnover can be very disruptive to a small company. We aim to develop and nurture healthy and longer relationships between the people that work here, where each is also satisfied and committed to their work. We think this creates the best opportunity for a fruitful, long-term position at MASS LBP.
