Another Way

Our work isn't as complicated as it sometimes can seem, but making a short video that would explain our work? That was tough. We wanted to make it as easy to follow as a children's book and the easiest book that any of us could remember was the classic that everyone reads when they're first learning the alphabet: "A is for Apple". What follows isn't "D is for 'Democracy'" or "E is for 'Elections'". Instead we borrowed the idea of using simple illustrations to punctuate each sentence. It's an approach that's consistent with how we've tried to promote our thinking. One of our first communications pieces was the MASS parable that tells the story of a frustrated mayor who can't make a good decision. Next, came our map-sized, hyper-clear brochure and our Representation poster. Then a lexicon of MASS terminology to describe some of the theory behind what we do. Now we've tried to bring a similar sensibility to video. Using narration, footage from several of our Citizens' Reference Panels and simple animation, "Another way" describes our approach to solving the policy dilemmas that public officials face every day. It's still only the first installment but as an effort, it's whet our appetite for using video to promote our work. So, do you think it works? What to see something different? Still got questions? Think you could do better and looking for a chance? Send us a note: anotherway/at/masslbp.com or sign up to the MASS Bulletin below. |
